Let’s be honest…most people love to brag that they bet on a longshot or had a sleeper pick come through and that they cashed in a winning ticket with the high odds highlighted. In reality it is hard to do, especially for golf when you have a 1 in 156 shot of being right.
Most bettors that pick longshots will pick anywhere from 10-20 golfers and improve their odds that way. By picking guys that range from a 40-1 to a 125-1 shot, if you get one of those to win you should cash in a ticket, although your profit may be smaller unless you do hit one of the really longshots.
Below are a bunch of golfers in the field for the 2018 US Open at Shinnecock Hills that we’ve scoped out as sleeper picks that could win and some longshot picks that have the potential to cash in. The US Open odds next to the players are from Bovada as of June 1st, 2018. Check back closer to the tournament as they are subject to change but if you like a certain golfer now always good to lock in your odds early.
These are the current odds live at Bovada as of June 01, 2018. They are subject to change, if you like anyone right now I suggest getting your bets in early as the odds usually change heading into the US Open.
US Open Sleepers and Longshot Bets
It is worth keeping in mind that the US Open course is usually set up super hard and the favorites to win usually can be made to look silly with the final scores so the US Open is when your odds of hitting a longshot improve.

These are good odds for a guy that has been playing some good golf in 2018. Casey isn’t mentioned a favorite leading up to any golf majors but he has the game and history that finds him on the leaderboards in most big PGA Tournaments he’s in.

At these odds, Walker is almost a steal and if you are reading this early enough it may be worth putting in a bet at Bovada early in case his odds drop down. He’s a past majors winner that has battled some health issues but his game recently has shown signs of him being back to the player he was 3-4 years ago when he was moving up the ranks of the OWGR. At 125-1 odds to win, you could see a nice payday!

Screams of “Koooch” will be heard through the galleries the first couple of days at Shinnecock and if Kuchar plays his regular boring golf game of pars and occasional birdies you could being hearing it during the final few pairings on Sunday.

Johnson is just the kind of golfer you want for a course like Shinnecock. Johnson just plays smart golf game and in the past done well at US Opens. The odds have him in longshot territory but he’s not a bad pick to consider.

Cantlay isn’t as known as most of the guys on this Longshots and Sleepers list but he should get you to at least take a second look at his stats when deciding who to bet on to win the 2018 US Open. Cantlay has played well this year and has had two solid showing in previous US Open tournaments. Odd makers like him a bit at 66-1 which means you should pay a bit of attention to him too!

This one is a longshot pick and I think the odds should be even higher…but that doesn’t mean he can’t win the 2018 US Open! Furyk is a past winner and can play the tough courses smartly and conservatively enough to make himself relevant at Shinnecock. He is getting close to heading to the seniors tour but you never know with old guys like this playing these tough courses.
