The Pyeongchang Olympics are finally here and there are a slew of betting options to get excited about. Although you can bet individual events for the 2018 Winter Olympics one of the best bets to look at is which country will win the most medals at the Olympics.
This wager is different from predicting gold medal winners which has its pitfalls at an Olympics that has fewer medals to give out than the summer event. I personally like betting the total medal count because generally if a country is favored in an event then they have 3 shots to win a medal (or more if they have more than one person competing in the event). I find the variance of possible winners to be low and therefore I can really narrow down my research.

With Russia not having an official team, predictions have Germany and Norway fighting it out for the top medal haul with Germany ultimately coming out on top. Many prediction models have Canada winning more medals than the USA but the US should win more gold medals (U.S. is -240 vs Canada +180 in which of the two countries will win more gold medals).
With the Olympics, anything can happen but as for total medal count you rarely get huge underdog country winning, if ever. In 2018 Winter Olympics, you either take a shot at Germany or Norway and hope that Canada and the USA cancel each other out. I have no problem in taking a sleeper pick with either US or Canada at good value but don’t bother looking at any other countries at longer odds, it just never happens.
My bigger bets will be on the top two and ultimately I'm going with Germany at +200 to win the most total medals.
